Middlesbrough Police Domestic Violence Unit

"Every Women has the right to be safe from
domestic abuse and violence"

Occurrences of domestic abuse and violence are dealt with by a dedicated unit based at Middlesbrough Police Office The unit comprises of female police officers who deal solely with domestic violence issues. They offer support, advice, guidance and information to those suffering from domestic abuse of any nature.

Criminal proceedings need not be taking place in order to make use of this service. Through inter agency cooperation there are various options available that do not involve police or court proceedings. All the options will be explained and the preferred course of action will be followed.

For those not wanting to meet at their home or the police station, the officers are happy to meet at a time and place which is convenient for both.

The domestic violence unit actively participates in all multi agency meetings. They offer awareness training to statutory and voluntary groups and organisations.

All new recruits have attended the University of Teesside where they successfully gained a UCPD professional policing certificate in domestic violence. They are now responsible for the training of all response police officers at Middlesbrough. They have introduced new and innovative methods within the force in the hope of raising the prosecution rate and lowering the amount of repeat and serious incidents of domestic abuse and violence.
