OPEN COLLEGE NETWORK ACCREDITED TRAINING
This training is Open College Network accredited to level 2 or 3, therefore a functional level of IT skills and literacy is required to complete the course, although support is available for IT. There is work to be completed in the learner’s own time in the form of 6 assignments which vary in difficulty according to which level the learner is working toward. The programme aims to equip learners with a general awareness of the problem of domestic violence, its impact on women and children and the range of services available to women in Middlesbrough. The programme is available to professionals who require training in the subject area, or to potential volunteers. It will provide an introduction to the skills required for volunteers to work alongside paid members of staff to supplement services within ‘My Sister’s Place’. The next course will be run in October 2006 and will be 1 morning a week for 6 weeks.
Anyone requiring further information regarding, cost, venue etc. please contact Pat Gallagher, Training & Volunteer Co-ordinator on 01642 241864 or e-mail pat@mysistersplace.co.uk

The Freedom Programme
The philosophy of this programme is based on research, which shows that in the majority of cases, domestic violence and associated crimes are committed by men against women. The programme draws upon the Duluth model which is based on power & control. In keeping with that model, this programme examines the roles played by attitudes and belief on actions and responses of both male perpetrators and women survivors. The programme aims to encounter the phenomenon whereby women who have experienced abuse have little or no understanding of what has happened to them and it simply feels like a painful confusing mess for which they are largely to blame.
AIM: To provide an opportunity for women to develop ways of thinking and behaving to protect themselves, and their children from harm.
Objectives:To increase women's ability to completely take control of their lives.
To increase women's perception of the importance of, and ability to, make positive use of social provisions to increase employability and/or achieve economic independence
To recognise the beliefs held by abusive men
To recognise the impact of their life experience on their own attitudes and beliefs
To increase women's ability to recognise what steps they need to take to protect their children
The Freedom Programme is open to any woman aged 16 or over and is approximately 2 hours a week for 6 weeks. Contact as above
